Tips for Food Storage

Meats of freshly slaughtered minerals as well as newly harvested or gathered food should be stored and handled properly to prevent spoiling and contamination with disease-causing organisms. Here are some tips for food storage.

Storage
  • Always follow the FIFO method (First In, First Out). Food that you stored in the freezer last week should be cooked before the food you bought and stored only yesterday.
  • Always store cooked and ready-to-eat food away from raw food to prevent contamination.
  • Keep storage areas clean.
  • Keep food items in clean wrappers and containers.
  • Store food only in areas intended for food storage.
Refrigeration
  • Store ready-to-eat food above. Raw foods should be placed inside the freezer or any cold storage to avoid spoilage.
  • Liquids from raw food could drip on prepared food and contaminate them.
  • Avoid overstocking food in the refrigerator to ensure proper air circulation.
  • Cover food to prevent drying and contamination.
