Reading aloud to your children is not only the best way to foster love of books but it is also a great way to spend time with them.
- Choose a book suitable to your child's age and that you like too.
- Choose a time when you're both ready. Ensure the TV is off and other distractions, such as bath time, are taken cared of.
- Spend time talking about the cover page to get your child interested and to generate excitement.
- Read slowly and clearly, and allow your child to comment on the illustration. Children are more interested in the pictures and will pick up minute details that adults often miss.
- Your voice is a powerful tool. Vary your pitch, tone and inflection to make the characters in the book come alive. Facial expressions also enhance the story.
