Teenagers have supple minds that they easily imbibe new ideas. Often, their ideas clash with those of their parents.
Some youngsters escape parental constraints by doing what goes on their mind, without discussing them with their parents, and take the risk of getting scolded.
We sometimes think that it will do us no good if we ask our parents' permission because they will not let us go anyway. Moreover, they even accuse us that we go somewhere else. We sometimes conclude that our parents do not trust us at all. This hurts a lot.
We always look at our needs, but we often do not consider our parents' role. Parents do things for our own good. Though, sometimes they overreact because they feel limited and are not sure of the future. They are afraid that something bad may happen to us.
Parental understanding is a prized opportunity for any youngster because not all parents are considerate. A good number of parents, though, understand and are more considerate to their children. These parents believe that God helps them in bringing up their children and deal with them in an atmosphere of trust.
If parents act over-protective, it is because they LOVE us. When love is stifling, a good talk with our parents can help ease their anxiety, and lessen the pressure on us. Let us pray that the Holy Spirit may enlighten our parents' mind so that they put trust in us, most of all, in God.
