Caring for your Feet

We easily take for granted that part of our body that gives us great mobility: our feet. They bear the weight of our body when we move. They do need some caring...

At the end of a long day at work or coming home from shopping, what a better way to relax than to soak your tired feet in warm water with salt. Try this and notice how relaxed your whole body feels later on. The feet is one of the most overworked member
part of our body that gives us great mobility: our feet. They bear the weight of our body when we move. They do need some carins of our body. Imagine, it carries our weight wherever we go.

The Feet

The feet is made up of 26 bones, 20 muscles, 100 ligaments and many nerves and blood vessels. The arch which joins the ball of the feet and the forefront of the toes absorbs the shock of daily walking. Each foot can withstand up to 600 tons of force each day.

Flat Feet

Flat feet is a case of weak arches. Most people with flat feet do not have a very good balance and so they hav
e a tendency to lean forward as they walk. The result is strains in the lower back causing aches.

Modern Shoes

Avoid wearing high heels. The tendency when one wears high heels is that the weight of the body is transferre
d to the toes thus tipping the wearer forward leading to aches too. Synthetic materials in shoes, should also be avoided because they do not allow breathing space for the feet thus causing fungi and viruses to thrive. They also cause corns and callouses because of the friction with the feet. Shoes/sandals that do not cover the bone one the inner side of the feet connecting to the toe can cause bunions.

Tight Shoes

The body can be divided into 10 zo
nes and each has a nerve ending in the feet and hands. When pressure is placed on some parts of the feet, there is an area that breaks down the tiny and highly toxic crystalline deposits formed at the nerve endings of the foot, thus slowing down circulation and causing diminished energy flow. Consulting a reflexology chart, you will see that the neck, cervical spine and the head are located at the base of and top of the big toe. So tight shoes, exerting pressure on these areas can cause headaches, neuralgia, tensions in the neck and shoulders.

Athlete's Foot

Toes and soles that hurt and crack and have itchy bumps are signs of athlete's foot. This is contagious. Treat it with anti-fungal soaps with sulphur or other tropical medicines.

Some Care Tips
  • Buy the right shoe size.
  • If you engage in sports, buy the right shoe for the activity to get maximum support.
  • Leather shoes with natural materials are recommended for everyday wear.
  • Exercise your feet regularly. At the end of a long day, rise up on your toes five times, wiggle them and stretch. You can also try picking up small articles with your toes.
  • Wash your feet daily in warm water. Do not forget to soap between the toes.
Remember always, TREAT YOUR FEET RIGHT!=)
