No car? Commission an FX and split the cost. Commute with your office mates or go in a group to the nearest bus or taxi stand; that way you at least reach your ride safely.
- Bring an umbrella.
Jab the umbrella into the face, eyes, throat or genitals of your attacker. You can flee in the time it takes him to recover from your blows.
- Secure tear gas and sharp blades.
A warning: if you don't know how to use blades or cutters, they can be wrestled away from and used on you. Tear gas or pepper spray with safety catches may be a better bet; just remember that criminals who are addicts can ignore pain easily.
- Don't pass through dark places.
Criminals like to hide in shadows, so stay in a place where a lot of people can see you, walk in brightly lit places.
- Don't talk to strangers.
Whether the person is a man or a woman, you still don't know who that person is. Watch out for people who look helpless or nice or friendly; remember, criminals need to lull you into thinking that you are safe.
- Find a temporary place to stay near your work.
This will lessen travel time, thus lessening your time out on the streets and your chances of becoming a victim.
- Keep your phone out of sight.
Text or call whoever you need to while you are still inside the building. When commuting, don't show your phone/ipod/mp3 player off. Avoid using cellphone when walking.
- Inform someone about the plate or body number of the taxi or FX you are riding.
Always make sure to let somebody at home know the plate or body number of the taxi so that he/she will know who to cooperate with, to interrogate, or to turn after in case something happens to you.
