Keeping Stress in Control and Being Happy

Have you ever noticed how stressful life has become? Life becomes faster, though there really are no physical evidences of the time going faster. Have you ever noticed how pollution levels have reached such profound levels that the idea of walking (as a form of exercise) can actually kill you with the pollution and the reckless drivers cohabiting the city? Although some stress in one's life can be beneficial as it pumps adrenalin into our bloodstreams, a number of ailments are related with stress. Too much stress can bring you literally down. Here are some tips for coping with stress...
  • Take short breaks during the day. Don't spend the whole time staring back at your computer or shuffling papers on your desk. Take a walk around the building for 5-10 minutes. This will not only relax you, it will also increase your productivity.
  • Exercise daily. An athletic coach advices that at least three hours of good exercise guarantees not only a trim body but also a clear mind. Even for those who suffer weak hearts, non-impact exercise like brisk walking of at least 20 minutes three times a week will be helpful.
  • Eight hours of sleep a day is normal. Get at least 6-7 hours of sleep.
  • Drink lots of water and eat nutritionally. It is a lot better to limit one's intake of salt and fatty foods. The presence of "bad" cholesterol and uric acid in your body can affect your moods.
  • Take supplements/vitamins.
  • Take vacations after long months of work...that is what recreation/vacation leaves are for.
  • Watch movies occasionally. Make sure these offer you relaxation and not added anxieties.
  • Stay away from the workplace during the non-working days. Spend time with your family and friends.
  • Read inspirational books.
  • Learn the art of slowing down brain activity at the end of the day, through reading light materials or watching TV.
  • Think happy thoughts.
  • Settle anger.
  • Confront fears.
  • Make friends with your loneliness.
  • Learn to appreciate the little nice things.
  • Daydream.
  • Entertain your inner child.
  • Lastly, but most important of all, LEARN TO PRAY REGULARLY.
Try these 18 suggestions, (add more if you can) and see how your disposition changes and how rested you feel despite hectic schedules. Thank God and all the wonderful things he has created. Believe that the nicest things in life are free so that all people can enjoy them...It's only a matter of discovering them. Thank God, BE HAPPY!!!=)
