The Balancing Act: Working while studying need not be a trial

Don’t:

• Work if you have a block schedule

• Don’t expect – or worse demand – special consideration

• Slack off. It’s part of the sacrifice you make, especially if you are running for honors. It takes a lot of self-discipline to keep on top of your studies while holding down a job.

• Work at a place that’s too far from either your home or your school.

Do:

• Prioritize your academic work – it’s the reason you are working

• Try to change your shifts, avoid overtime and take leaves when exams and important papers are due.

• Let your instructor know that you work.

• Remember to list your work and duties in your resume and to keep it updated.
